The May meeting of the Central Iowa Quilt Sew-ciety was held on May 2 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Following a time of refreshments and socializing the meeting was called to order by President Rosanne Anderson.

Two guests were introduced. Minutes and treasurer’s reports were given and approved. June starts a new year for the guild and members are reminded to pay $25 for dues for the year. New board members were approved. The guild will be making a road trip during the All Iowa Shop Hop on June 17 visiting seven different quilt shops. To register contact Iowa Valley Continuing Education and pay your $30 fee.

Following a time of show and tell Dorothy Faidley, superintendent of Fabric and Threads at the Iowa State Fair, was introduced. She encouraged all members to enter some of their quilts in the Iowa State Fair for exhibit.

Entry forms can be obtained through the Iowa State Fair website and are due July 1. These entries are to be delivered to the state fair on July 29.

Faidley talked about the state fair exhibit, what things to do prior to bringing your handmade items to fair and the attitude of sharing for the fun of sharing! The new category at the fair this year is Quilts of Valor and all quilts submitted in this category will be given to CIQS for distribution to veterans at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown at their spring event.

The state fair raffle quilt was also shown. Various individuals submitted a block made from specific fabric kits for this quilt for raffle.

Next meeting of the CIQS will be at 5:30 p.m. on June 6 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Program will be given by Mary Jane Hazelwood, “Sun Printing on Fabric.” Anyone with an interest in quilts and quilting is invited to attend and join.
