Boy, 14, dies after being discovered on bike path
Police have confirmed that a young boy found on the bike path died in the local emergency room last night.
Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper said he became aware of the boy around 10 p.m. Friday. A passerby had called the communication center saying they had spotted an injured 14-year-old boy lying on the bike path near a railroad crossing bridge in the area of Nevada and 12th Avenue.
The boy was unresponsive when first responders arrived. Paramedics transported him to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center where doctors pronounced him dead in the ER.
Although the MPD will continue to investigate, Tupper said there is no indication of foul play. The boy had no visible injuries, and Tupper said he had a history of significant medical problems.
