Man arrested in connection to armed robbery
A Marshalltown man is behind bars in connection with a weekend robbery of a local convenience store.
The Marshalltown Police Department reports that at 3:43 a.m. Sunday, officers with the MPD and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Jiffy Mart convenience store, 111 S. 3rd Ave., after a 9-1-1 call was made regarding an armed robbery.
According to the MPD, Nathan Alexander Buchanan, 40, entered the convenience store and allegedly stole merchandise. The store clerk attempted to make contact with Buchanan as he was getting into a vehicle. A subsequent traffic stop was initiated at 3rd Avenue and Church Street, where Buchanan was taken into custody without incident.
According to the MPD report, Buchanan was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. A realistic-looking toy handgun was located in the vehicle. Two other vehicle occupants in the vehicle were interviewed and released without criminal charges.
Buchanan was charged with first-degree robbery (Class B felony); possession of a controlled substance – third offense (Class D felony); and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor).
Buchanan is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail.
