Senior Citizens Center reaches out to the community

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO From left, Joan Stevens, Mary Isaacson, Pat Hornber, and Leanna Bowers show off some of the many crafts made at the Marshalltown Senior Citizens Center.

Editor’s Note: This is the latest in a series of articles about the partner agencies affiliated with the United Way of Marshall County. Articles will be published every Wednesday and Saturday now through Dec. 17.

The Marshalltown Senior Citizens Center is a proud member organization of the Marshalltown United Way. The United Way provides us with the extra support we need to continue to provide activities and opportunities for socializing to the seniors, 55 and older, in the Marshall County area.

We have a lounge area with cable and big screen TV, two pool tables with equipment, shuffleboard court with equipment, computers with printer and internet access, a sewing area with quilting machine, a full-size kitchen, a book exchange, and plenty of tables for playing games or just visiting. We always have snacks with coffee or iced tea available for everyone as well. Conversations are always nicer with a beverage and a cookie or two.

We host a number of fundraisers each year but the age of our participants limits our abilities to support ourselves which is why we reached out to the Marshalltown United Way.

In partnership with United Way, we have continued to offer seniors in our area a place to meet old friends and make new ones for 44 years now. Hopefully, with continued support from United Way and generous community members, we can continue being here for our seniors for many years to come.

The Marshalltown Senior Citizens Center is located at 20 East State St. For more information call Bobbi at 754-5744.
