Beverages and food galore at annual ‘Taste of Marshalltown’

With Marshalltown Mall hosting, the event highlighted local cuisine and brought chamber members together for a night of free food, drink and a lot of fellowship.

If any Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce member attending Tuesday night’s annual Taste of Marshalltown went away hungry or thirsty, it was their own fault.

Representatives from The Brew House, Culver’s, Elmwood Country Club, Fiddle & Whistle Pub, HyVee Food Store, Iowa River Brewing Co., Legend’s American Grill, O’Hungry’s Restaurant, Pizza Ranch and Zeno’s Pizza came out in grand fashion at the Marshalltown Mall with tables packed full of free-of-charge food and beverages

The chamber member businesses had a chance to showcase some of their most popular foods, along with some new dishes.

And they did not disappoint.

Dozens of hungry and thirsty attendees eagerly went from table to table in the spacious room.

Items included cheeses, hot wings, regular and decaffeinated coffees, meatballs, pizza, sandwiches, beer and desserts, among others.

Some of the businesses were anxious to get feedback on new products.

For example, staff from the Pizza Ranch were eager to find out what guests thought of their new sausage toppings on their popular pizza.

Michelle Kabrick and Serena McGrew of The Brew House were kept busy handing out free samples of unique coffees like “Jamaican Me Crazy” or a breakfast blend and decaffeinated coffee, among other products. “We have an assortment of different pastries, espresso beans, and organic sprouted breads,” said Kabrick. “It (the event) is going really well,” said McGrew.

Steve Hubbard of Tele-Difference of Marshalltown said with a smile said he attend because of “leftovers at home.” His remark earned raucous laughter at his table.

He then turned a little more serious. “It gives you a chance to try a number of places you have not been to before,” he said.

Tami Lichtenberg of Marshalltown had a different reason.

“We like to support local businesses,” she said. “We have some great businesses here in Marshalltown … good food … a lot of eclectic items … and this event is a good chance to promote it.”

Janice Hubbard, Steve’s wife spoke for many: “Everything I have had has been really good,” she said.

The event was sponsored by the Marshalltown Mall, a fellow chamber member.

A Taste of Marshalltown, while not open to the general public, was open to any employees of groups that belong to the chamber, including businesses and organizations. To learn more, contact the chamber at 641-753-6645.
