‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’

Two rows of yellow daffodils bordering a walkway are seen recently greeting Riverside Cemetery visitors — offering a local “Yellow Brick Road” from the “Wizard of Oz.” Members of the Marshalltown Garden Club planted bulbs last fall, after Riverside Cemetery staff tilled the ground. “Visitors say the daffodils are beautiful,” said Riverside Manager Dorie Tammen. “One can see them from the street.” Tammen said the garden club helped bring back a traditional feature of the cemetery. “We understand there was a ‘Yellow Brick Road’ years ago,” she said. Tammen said another plus to the daffodils besides their striking color is deer leave them alone. The walkway is in Section 3, west of the historic pond.
