Fundraiser: It’s all about the animals

Whiskers, Wine and Something Divine slated for Thursday

The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown’s Whiskers, Wine and Something Divine is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year. Now in its sixth year, the event, held Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Midnight Ballroom, offers animal lovers the chance to enjoy an evening filled with food, refreshments and auctions — as a way to raise money for animals in need.

“Our goal each year is to raise more money than the last year,” said ARL Director Shelly Deal. “Expenses pop up all the time that aren’t part of our everyday budget, so this fundraiser is essential.”

At 6 p.m. a social hour kicks-off the fundraiser, with a wine tasting sponsored by Hy-Vee, and hors d’oeuvres provided by local vendors. There will be a live auction, with services provided by Casady Auctioneering, as well as a silent auction filled with goodies donated by local merchants.

KIX 101.1 morning co-host Melia Jeanne will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Ticket for admission are $40 in advance, and $45 at the door, and are being sold at the ARL of Marshalltown, Animal Clinic–The Vet, Hy-Vee and Happy Tails. Raffle tickets for various prizes sell for $10 each or six for $50, available where admission tickets are sold (except Hy-Vee). One lucky winner will go home with the “Divine Prize” — a gold and diamond tennis bracelet, donated by The General Store.

One raffle winner will get to choose a free trip to either the Napa Valley, New Orleans or the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, or a cash prize of $1,000. The winner does not need to be present to win.
