Iowa River Trail work commences for 2017

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

A Con-Struct backhoe is shown recently demolishing a building in the Wilson Circle area of Marshalltown. The project is part of an initiative to make the area a trailhead for the Iowa River Trail. Grant funds are being used for development, and connecting from Wilson Circle to the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA campus and other points this year. The trail will offer Marshalltonians safe access to the Linn Creek Recreational Trail, the local aquatic center, Grimes Farm, and more. Once complete, the trail will connect seven communities in Marshall and Hardin counties, linking Marshalltown Albion, Liscomb, Union, Gifford, Eldora and Steamboat Rock. It will offer users opportunities ranging from camping to hiking to snowmobiling. TRAILS, Inc. is working on Marshall County trail development while the Iowa River Trail-Hardin Commission is managing Hardin County trail initiatives. For more information visit IowaRiverTrail.com
