Waiting for dirt

A PCI back-hoe prepares to dump a load of earth into a waiting truck at the site being readied for the new Holiday Inn Express in the 100 block of Iowa Avenue recently. Ground was broken approximately two weeks ago, according to project developer Hawkeye Hotels of Coralville. The Marshalltown project marks the firm’s 18th in Iowa, and its first locally. The hotel will be four stories, and offer 93 rooms. It is slated to open in January of 2018. Amenities will include an indoor pool, exercise room, complimentary high-speed wireless internet and business center. The project is expected to generate a 20-year economic impact of more than $200 million through taxes, consumer spending and job creation. Hawkeye Hotels owns and operates more than 50 hotels across the country. It employs more than 1,000 people, ranging from hotels to corporate offices. The company maintains lasting affiliations with leading brands, including Marriott.
