Unleashing creativity

The Central Iowa Art Association (CIAA) is hosting its yearly Summer Art Camp sessions, which give youngsters week-long daytime activities to do in the CIAA’s art center. This week, youth in grades K-3 are attending the camp. Then the week of June 19-23, youth in grades 4-9 will get to make more complex creations based on varying interests and skill levels. This year’s theme focuses on making Minecraft headgear out of cardboard boxes and 2D and 3D Pokémon figures. Here, art camper Lonica Ferneau draws a life-sized portrait depicting the things she loves, as part of an introductory camp project. Registration is still available for next week’s camp by calling: 641-753-9013. The camp is being taught by Kamar Essex with the help of several volunteers. Scholarships are available, and the camp is being sponsored by the Marshalltown Youth Foundation.
