Encouraging young actors

Friday morning and afternoon, kids ranging in age from 7-14, took to the stage of the Martha-Ellen Tye Playhouse to perform a kids-only version of “Into the Woods,” as part of this year’s Kids Acting Academy. The children were cast in their parts on Monday, and worked from Tuesday-Friday learning their lines, making costumes and learning about set construction. While not open to the public, the children’s relatives and friends were invited to the morning and afternoon performances. Around 65 children participated. The academy followed on the heels of the Marshalltown Community Theatre’s summer performance of “Into the Woods,” which ran for six performances in recent weeks.-
