A fun time down on First Street

St. Mary Catholic Church’s annual Festival on First was held Sunday afternoon along First Street in Marshalltown. Inflatable bounce houses, games, Loteria (a form of Mexican Bingo), face painting, instant raffles and live music were offered. Dairy Queen Blizzard treats, cookies and bars tempted people’s sweet tooth, while an assortment of traditional Latino dishes were served up including tortas, tamales, burritos, quesadillas, pupusas, Mexican corn on the cob, fresh fruit cups, fruit drinks and horchata. Burgers and hot dogs were grilled by Eric Boone. A legion of volunteers and parishioners made the event possible. Pictured are St. Mary congregants preparing mesa dough to make pupusas.
