Central Iowa Art Association fundraiser slated for Oct. 7

‘Art in Wonderland’ is the theme

It will be a “very important date” for the Central Iowa Art Association’s (CIAA) annual fundraiser “Art in Wonderland” whose theme this year is a take on the story of “Alice in Wonderland.” It will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 from 6-11 p.m. at the Fisher Community Center Auditorium.

Upon entering the building, guests will walk into the Red Queen’s court, then enter a keyhole-shaped door which leads into the auditorium’s Enchanted Forest. Tables will be set up in the style of the Mad Hatter’s tea party. Hors d’oeuvres will include wine, cheese and tea party treats.

“We thought this would be an artsy and colorful theme for our fundraiser, which is aimed at adults,” said CIAA Program Director Keeley Weeks. “CIAA member Sarah Gilbert has been working on creating the decor, and some of the artwork made by our art campers in the summer will also be displayed.”

Live and silent auctions will be held, and will include an array of artwork, gift baskets and items donated by local businesses.

Comedian Ed Burroughs will provide the entertainment. A photo booth will be available and guests will be entered to win door prizes. T-shirts commemorating the event are available for sale.

“This is our largest fundraiser of the year,” Weeks said. “Funds raised will be used to pay for those expenses that we can’t necessarily get founding for, things that come up.”

Tickets cost $25 each, and are available at the door and at the following businesses: Hy-Vee, the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, the Orpheum Theater, Art & Frame on Main and at the CIAA’s office.
