Four injured in accident

A two-vehicle accident over the weekend has injured four people, including a 3-year-old toddler.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a vehicle operated by Nicholas Weatherly, 36, of Albion, was traveling west on 170th Street at about 6 p.m. Saturday. At the same time, a vehicle driven by Codey Briley, 27, of State Center was traveling north on Oaks Avenue.

The state patrol reports that Briley failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by Weatherly’s vehicle, causing Briley’s vehicle to go into a ditch where the vehicle rolled and then came to a stop.

Both Weatherly and Briley were injured in the crash, as well as their respective passengers, Heather Frazier, 27, of Albion and Arianna Surber, 3. All four were transported by air ambulance to Des Moines — Weatherly and Frazier to Mercy Hospital; Briley and the child to Methodist Hospital.

Initial reports indicated that the toddler was in critical condition and at least one of the adults was listed as being in serious condition. Early reports also indicated that neither driver had a valid driver’s license at the time of the accident.
