Man charged with meth possession

A Marshalltown man is in the Marshall County Jail after a property owner alerted authorities to his alleged supply of methamphetamine.

David James Spencer, 19, was arrested by the Marshalltown Police Department earlier this week and charged with unlawful manufacturing or deliver of a controlled substance-meth (13.6 grams), keeping a premises for the sale or use of controlled substances and possession of a controlled substance, according to Marshall County District Court records.

MPD Capt. Brian Batterson said officers responded to a service call earlier this week to a residence in the 400 block of North 15th Street. “A homeowner found what he thought was methamphetamine and believed it belonged to Spencer,” Batterson said. “Officers went to the scene, investigated the circumstances and arrested Spencer. He had more than 10 grams of methamphetamine on his person plus paraphernalia. In cooperation with the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force, a search warrant was issued and found other evidence.”

Spencer’s preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 8. He is currently being held on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
