Cannon blasts at Baily funeral

Attendees of Marshall County World War II veteran Ellis Baily’s funeral didn’t just hear an honor guard’s 21-gun salute echoing from Rose Hill Cemetery Wednesday morning. An old-fashioned cannon, which Baily had had built himself, also boomed through the morning air as bystanders felt the resulting concussion blast. Anderson Funeral Home Director Jody Anderson said Baily joined the service even though, as the only son of a farming family, he could have deferred his draft selection.
