38th annual Binford House Fall Salad Luncheon and Fashion Show Oct. 27

It’s more than a bevy of salads — it’s a chance to share a meal and see the latest fashions, dining at the Binford House, the stately Victorian mansion located at 110 N. 2nd Ave. The 38th Annual Binford House Fall Salad Luncheon and Fashion Trunk Show Fundraiser will be held at the residence on Friday, Oct. 27, with seating at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Marshalltown Federation of Women’s Clubs (MFWC) and three clubs which hold their meetings at this locale: Entre Nous Club, Hawthorne Club and Early American Glass Club, in which its members will prepare a variety of pasta, vegetable, fruit and meat and seafood-based salads for people’s dining pleasure.

“I think the variety of the salads our donors bring is outstanding,” said David Giese, who serves as president of the MFWC. “The dishes are creative, tasty and look good.”

“It’s a complete meal, served buffet-style,” said coordinator Joann Neven. “It’s a good way to treat a friend to lunch in pleasant surroundings.”

After each seating, there will be a fashion trunk show presented by Jonathan Hull, owner of Willard’s Furs and Fashions.

“He will bring in a trunk, showing the latest fall, winter and holiday fashions,” Neven explained.

The Binford House was donated to the Marshalltown Federation of Women’s Clubs in 1930 by Jessie Binford. General upkeep and repairs to keep the residence suitable for hosting events requires the club to hold various fundraisers throughout the year. Funds raised for the luncheon will go towards paying to repair the roof of the carriage house, which is attached to the back of the residence.

The cost is $25 per person, with payment taken at the door. Reservations are required by calling: 641-753-5450.

The Binford House, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, may be rented for social events, celebrations and meetings.
