MPD investigate car break-ins at Y

TIMES-REPUBLICAN

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect or suspects connected to several car break-ins at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

According to Marshalltown Police Department Capt. Brian Batterson, officers were called to the Y at 12:47 p.m. after Y personnel reported that a handful of vehicles had been broken into.

Batterson said the MPD noted that at least six vehicles were damaged after a suspect or suspects broke windows and stole purses and other miscellaneous items from within the cars.

The captain said his office is reviewing Y cameras and looking at other video surveillance cameras in the area that might showcase any individuals breaking into the vehicles or other suspicious activity.

Batterson said the MPD is asking that anyone who may have been at the Y between 12:30-12:45 p.m. Tuesday and may have seen someone or something of interest to call authorities.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the MPD at (641) 754-5725. Tips may also be submitted to Crimestoppers at (641) 753-1234, via text by texting the word “marshall” followed by the tip to CRIMES (274637), or online at www.marshallcountycs.com
