Argument in local motel leads to man’s arrest
A disturbance involving a man and a woman at a local motel late last week resulted in a host of charges, including child endangerment-bodily injury, filed against a male suspect.
Cody James Heinrichs, 28, listed in court records as homeless, was arrested by the Marshalltown Police Department after they responded to a call of a couple arguing in the motel hallway.
“The female had sustained injuries to her face after being struck by the suspect,” said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD. “He had fled with the couple’s joint-custody child (a baby) prior to the arrival of officers. Officers were in the process ensuring the victim was receiving medical attention and interviewing witnesses when a call came from a local retailer claiming a man with a shopping cart was acting erratically.” Officers soon learned it was Heinrichs.
“One of our officers confronted the man, who then ran away, leaving the baby in the shopping cart,” said Batterson. “The suspect was captured immediately after without incident … he was ordered to stop and did.”
Heinrichs was also charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Flow of Air/Blood, Willful Injury – Causing Bodily Injury, and Contempt – Violation of No Contact/Protective Order. Heinrichs was taken to Marshall County Jail, where he he is being held without bond. His preliminary hearing is Nov. 27.
