City: Pay parking tickets and library fines now

Procrastinators, and those thinking the city is going to ignore delinquent library fines and parking tickets are in for a surprise — one that will hit them in the pocketbook.

The surprise: If those fines and tickets are not paid by Dec. 1, one can expect to have their Iowa income tax refund withheld.

“To avoid this inconvenience, please pay your parking tickets and library fines now,” said Marshalltown City Clerk Shari Coughenour.

She said the city is actively assembling a list of residents with delinquent parking tickets and library fines.

For information about parking ticket amounts owed, contact 641-754-5700. For library fines, contact 641-754-5738.

Public Library director Sarah Rosenblum urged residents

being fined for lost library items to check under car seats, furniture and elsewhere.

“With today’s busy lifestyles, it is easy to leave library material at grandmother’s house, a babysitter’s residence, or elsewhere,” she said. “The bottom line is, we need those items returned. They were purchased with taxpayer money.

We at the library strive to be good stewards of tax payer funds. Fines and reminders about lost items demonstrate we are good stewards.”
