Marshalltown man killed in Highway 330 collision

Authorities are continuing their investigation into a weekend accident that claimed the life of a Marshalltown man.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and an Iowa State Patrol report, sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of car-semi crash at 3:56 a.m. Sunday in the two-lane section of Highway 330, about one-half mile west of Marsh Avenue.

According to the report, a vehicle, operated by Jorge Cervantes, 32, of Marshalltown, was traveling north on Highway 330 and crossed the center line, colliding with a semi-tractor trailer, driven by Mark A. Puls, 56, of Gladbrook.

Cervantes was declared dead at the scene.

Puls was transported to UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown with a complaint of pain that was not believed to be life threatening.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Along with the sheriff’s office, the state patrol was assisted by the Marshalltown Police Department, the State Center Fire and EMS Department, the Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement Agency and IDOT Highway Division.
