Gilman man dies after falling in well

Gilman Fire and Rescue:?90-year-old pronounced dead at the scene

GILMAN — An 90-year-old man was pronounced dead Christmas Day after falling into a well in rural Gilman.

According to a statement on the incident from Gilman Fire and Rescue, crews were dispatched to the property at 9:11 a.m. Monday after a report came in that a man had fallen into a water well.

When crews arrived, they worked to extricate the man, Maurice Tufte, who had fallen about six feet underground.

They successfully extricated him at 9:31 a.m., but Tufte did not survive the ordeal.

“UnityPoint [Health] paramedics determined he had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” the statement read.
