Marshalltown man charged with abuse and child endangerment

A Marshalltown man is facing felony domestic abuse and child endangerment charges after he was arrested by Marshalltown Police earlier this week at a local motel.

Officers were dispatched to the motel after an individual called 911 after receiving a text from the victim,” said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD. After speaking to the victim, officers located Eduardo Soto, 27, in another motel room and made the arrest, and later transported him to the Marshall County Jail.

Batterson said the victim and Soto are in a relationship, but a dispute over money led to an argument and altercation. “While the victim did not require medical attention, the suspect has been convicted twice previously of domestic abuse charges, resulting in current felony charges against him,” said Batterson. “Children were also present, which resulted in the child endangerment charges.”

Soto made an appearance in Marshall County District Court Thursday. He is currently being held on $9,000 cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 22.
