The Season of Giving

AT LEFT: Two weeks after an anonymous donor dropped a gold bar, valued at roughly $1,200, inside a Marshalltown Salvation Army red kettle at Walmart, two more gold bars have been donated. Maj. Ben Stillwell said the donations are an incredible gift as the organization works toward reaching its goal of $145,500 for the year. “I’m silly happy,” said Stillwell. “We’re totally blown away.” As of Thursday morning, the Salvation Army had collected just under $82,000 — nearly 57 percent of its campaign goal.
