Editor’s Note: 15 Minutes has returned after a hiatus, due in part to a injury suffered by reporter Mike Donahey. The injury and healing required him to recover at home for a time. Regardless, 15 Minutes will now run the first Saturday of the month.
Resides: We live in the country — specifically, northwest Marshall County.
Family: I am married to my best friend of 31 years. We have been given five tremendous children, and they are an incredible blessing. Three of our children are married. We have two grandchildren and are eagerly expecting a new grandchild in April!
Pets: Ruger is our brindle-colored Mastiff. He is a wonderful dog, but we would like to fast-forward through his puppy stage.
Hobbies and interests: We enjoy regular family days, with everyone coming home to celebrate the day together. This is a time to relax, reconnect, play games, and eat “fun” food together. The men in our family love to hunt different kinds of animals. My husband and I enjoy baby-sitting our grandkids regularly, kayaking the Iowa River, and hosting gatherings with friends. Our weekly small group Bible study is important to us, as well as our church body. Quilting is my favorite hobby. I love creating a special quilt for family and friends. Hosting women’s Bible studies on the front porch is enjoyable.
Occupation: Volunteer coordinator at UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown
What that means: I have the privilege of managing a tremendous volunteer team! My job is to recruit, inspire, organize, train and schedule our volunteers. Their choice to give of their time to serve others is a constant inspiration to me! Anyone interested in volunteering should contact me.
Tenure: I celebrated my three-year anniversary in December.
Best part of work or occupation: Interacting and enjoying the tremendous volunteers. They make the job fun!
If I could change jobs: Serving our community through our volunteer department is a wonderful job. I would not want to change.
Books: The Bible. God has changed my life and is the most important part of my life. Others are “Humility” by Andrew Murray, “Abiding in Christ” also Murray, and “The Pursuit of God,” by A.W. Tozer.
Foods: We love spicy foods, cooking for a crowd, and baking bread from scratch. The latter means grinding the wheat ourselves, which makes the best flavor and texture.
Movies: “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Sergeant York,” and “The Sound of Music.”
Best part of living here: We love the slower-paced life in Iowa, and the beauty of the country.
Most influential people: My parents, our family, and close friends that inspire and challenge me to become the best I can be.
Local involvement: We are very involved in our church. This means being a part of a weekly Connection Group, helping with parenting classes and Women’s Bible Studies. My mom and I love to get some ladies together for quilting days periodically. And I love to get out in the community to inspire other to join our amazing team of volunteers at UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown.
Advice on life: Spend time each day reading the Bible to grow in your relationship with God, follow His path for your life, and try your best to live what you believe. And give yourself grace for the times when you do not.
