Man arrested in check fraud
Earlier this week Marshalltown police arrested a local man in connection with check fraud, said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD.
Billy Alfred Edwards Jr. was charged with forgery, a Class D felony; Conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, a Class D felony, and second-degree theft.
Edwards allegedly presented a fraudulent check in the amount of $683.13 to a local retailer, and received money in return according to police and court records. Edwards was taken to Marshall County Jail. He was appointed a Marshall County public defender by Magistrate Kevin O’Hare.
He is being held on $5,000 cash or surety bond. His preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 15. Batterson said a warrant has been issued for another suspect in this case.
