Man attempts to elude police

A Marshalltown man is behind bars after he was arrested by Marshalltown police earlier this week on a host of charges.

Officers had been called to residence in the 200 block of North Third Avenue on a reported domestic abuse incident

when they noticed Alex Tejada, 35, of Marshalltown outside and walking away from the residence. When officers attempted to question him he resisted. “Mr. Tejada was verbally non-compliant with the officers and took off running while they were trying to question him on the domestic abuse incident,” said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD. “Officers were able to catch up with the suspect but he continued resisting. At one point an officer deployed a Taser, but that was ineffective due to a heavy coat the suspect was wearing. The suspect continued to resist, and officers were required to use pepper-spray to subdue the suspect.” Tejada was charged with interference with official acts, possession of controlled substance-third or subsequent offense, possession of schedule IV controlled substance -serious, possession of a controlled substance third or subsequent offense. Tejada was later transported to Marshall County Jail.
