Man charged in recent auto theft
A local man is in the Marshall County Jail after being charged with stealing a vehicle.
Joshua Robert Richard Jamell, 22, was apprehended by Marshalltown police earlier this week after a officer became suspicious of a vehicle in a Marshalltown retailer’s parking lot.
“The officer ran the license plate and the vehicle had been reported stolen from Des Moines,” said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD. “The officer followed the suspect out of the parking lot and shortly thereafter, stopped the vehicle.” Jamell was arrested and charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony. The car was taken to the MPD impound lot and Des Moines authorities were notified. Jamell’s preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on March 1. Marshall County District Court appointed Jamell a public defender. Bond is $10,000 cash or surety.
