Man charged with third degree sexual abuse

Ramirez-Sanchez

A Marshalltown man was arrested by Marshalltown Police earlier this week on third-degree sexual abuse charges, according to a MPD press release.

Jose Luis Ramirez-Sanchez, 62, was taken into custody at MPD headquarters and later transported to Marshall County Jail.

Ramirez-Sanchez allegedly assaulted an adult female during a massage session in the summer of 2014, according to police reports.

On Nov. 30, 2017 the victim reported the assault to the MPD. According to the victim, she had an injury in 2014, and was referred to a local man — Ramirez-Sanchez — who performed massages in his home.

During the massage session, the victim said the suspect sexually assaulted her.

After completing interviews with the victim, a witness,

and suspect, MPD sent the case to the Marshall County Attorney’s Office.

“Upon review of the evidence, the county attorney’s office recommended charges be filed,” said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD. “It is not unusual for sexual assault victims to wait a long time before filing charges. There is a number of factors which contribute to that — emotions, embarrassment, concerns about a trial. and so on.”

It is the second time within eight months Ramirez-Sanchez has been charged by the MPD. He was arrested in June, 2017, for a similar crime, according to the MPD press release.

Anyone with additional information on Ramirez-Sanchez is encouraged to contact the MPD. Additionally, tips may be submitted to Crimestoppers by contacting 641-753-1234, or, by texting the word “marshall” followed by the tip to CRIMES (274637), on online at marshallcountycs.com. All tips are anonymous and could earn a reward of up to $1,000 should the tip result in an arrest. For more information, contact Batterson, 641-754-5733, or bbatterson@marshalltown.ia.gov. Ramirez-Sanchez’s initial court appearance is scheduled Feb. 7 in Marshall County District Court.
