Tip to MPD results in arrest
Officers from the Marshalltown Police Department were dispatched to a local convenience store earlier this week from a tip a wanted person was in a vehicle near the store.
Police contacted a male who was in the vehicle, and he said the female suspect was in the store. Police located a female suspect who was asked to provide identification.
The suspect, later identified as Crystal Cardona, 29, gave a false name, said MPD Capt. Brian Batterson. Officers secured a positive identification the suspect from a picture and tattoo. Cardona’s purse was searched before she was taken to the Marshall County Jail. Inside the purse, officers found a marijuana pipe and a baggy containing 10 Hydrocodone pills. Officers charged her with unlawful possession of prescription pills, possession of drug paraphernalia and providing a false name. Additionally, officers learned the suspect was wanted on two warrants from another law enforcement agency.
Her preliminary hearing is 1 p.m. on Feb. 9. A sentencing hearing will be rescheduled by Marshall County District Court. Bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety.
