Grimes Farm ‘Art in the Park’ slated for April 5

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO On Thursday, April 5 from 6:30-8 p.m., Tami Krough will lead an introductory painting on canvas class at Grimes Farm and Conservation Center. Attendees will create a night scene (pictured).

For those interesting in learning the basics of canvas painting (and getting the opportunity to take home a completed work of art), Grimes Farm’s first ever Art in the Park class may be just the right fit.

“This is a take off on the Naturally Artistic art events we hosted last year,” said Administrative Assistant Tami Krough, who will be leading the class.

The class, open to those age 13 and older, will take place Thursday, April 5 from 6:30-8 p.m. Participants can choose to paint either on an 11×14 inch or 16×20 inch canvas, using acrylic paint. All supplies will be provided and some refreshments will be served. The cost, regardless of the size of the canvas, is $25. People are advised to wear clothing suitable for the painting process.

Krough will offer step-by-step instructions on how to paint a nighttime scene.

“I paint what I like. I’m not classically trained, but I picked up painting on my own about 17-18 years ago,” she explained. “I will paint [with participants] as well, and work to give different techniques. They can be flexible in how they paint.”

This is the first installment in what Krough hopes will be an on-going program, with at least one more session to be scheduled in the fall.

“We were just trying to find some programing the public wanted, and I have been wanting to do some art classes out here too,” she said.

Krough, who has worked for Grimes Farm the last six years, regularly assists MCCB Director Mike Stegmann and Naturalist Emily Herring in the conservation center’s myriad of events held throughout the year.

Registration and payment are required by March 30 by calling: 641-752-5490. Space is limited.
