MPD officers ready to climb stairs for charity

Four members of the Marshalltown Police Department — Dane Bowermaster, Dave Danielson, Paul Heitman and Wyatt Shelangoski — are competing in the American Lung Association’s “Fight for Air Climb” in Des Moines on April 8.

This is a relay race between different groups up 85 floors in a downtown building — that’s 1,796 steps.

The MPD claimed second place last year but Bowermaster, in an email to colleagues jokingly wrote: “Second is OK if you live your life by ‘first is the worst, second is the best,’ but I don’t. I live my life by ‘If you’re not first you’re last’ so second is unacceptable. Anyway the main goal is to raise money for the American Lung Association so therefore we need your money.”
