Cofounder and President Ben Daniels, pictured here, still estimates a Sept. 1 opening date and said about 30 percent of the rooms have already been reserved.

Inside and outside, a new 50,000-square-foot assisted living and memory care facility is coming together on Marshalltown’s west side.

The Willows Assisted Living and Memory Care, 2315 Campbell Drive, is set for completion by Sept. 1 and living spaces are already being reserved. The area in and around the facility is abuzz with activity as June comes to a close.

“We have just a few little details to finish here in the next couple weeks,” Willows President and cofounder Ben Daniels said. “We’re waiting on a big truckload of furniture and artwork and a crew to install that, and that should be happening in July.”

Activity will ramp up next month.

“We will have our big ‘we’re done’ open house in late July or early August,” Daniels said. “About 30 percent of our apartments have been reserved, so we still have a lot to choose from but that number keeps dwindling as the days go by.”

When complete, the facility will have a total of 58 apartment spaces, 40 of which will be designated for assisted living and 18 of which will be for memory care, Daniels said.

Willows cofounder Mira Daniels, Ben Daniels’ wife, said she and other project leaders are excited to be close to opening the “flagship” facility.

“Everything that we choose, everything we look at, all of these decisions that go into this, it’s all for optimal comfort, optimal resident experience,” she said. “You get excited as it gets closer, you want to meet these people who are going to call this home — that has been, for us, the most exciting thing.”

Along with living spaces, The Willows will include a lounge area, movie theater, library, spa, salon, courtyard area with gardening available, fitness area and more. Ben Daniels said all staff members will be certified CNAs or CMAs and there will be two registered nurses at the facility.

“Any senior who is looking to simplify their life and increase their joy and live without worry would qualify to live here,” he said. “What really makes the Willows special is that this is a family-owned and operated business … there’s nothing in it that doesn’t have the fingerprints of the Daniels family, and that’s the way it’s going to stay.”

The Daniels family has built similar facilities in Burlington, Carroll, Fort Madison, Mount Pleasant, Muscatine and their native Fairfield. For more information, call facility Community Relations Director Linsey Karsjen at 641-758-3123 or visit https://willowslife.com.
