Man charged with aggravated domestic assault
A Marshalltown man was charged with aggravated domestic assault — impeding flow of air/blood earlier this week by the Marshalltown Police Department. According to MPD and Marshall County District Court records, Eric Maurice Mayes, 45, allegedly assaulted the victim by knowingly impeding her normal breathing by applying pressure to her throat or neck. The incident took place in front of the victim’s two children, which resulted in police filing a second criminal complaint of child endangerment. Mayes was taken to Marshall County Jail where he was later released on bond. Marshall County District Court Magistrate Kevin O’Hare appointed Mayes a public defender and also issued a no contact order against the defendant, meaning he can not contact the victim. His preliminary hearing is June 28.
