IVH employees, residents celebrate new laundry facility
Iowa Veterans Home Laundry Supervisor Hope Harvey, holding giant clothespin/scissors, cuts a ribbon celebrating the grand opening of the $6.2-million dollar laundry complex on the campus Friday while Mayor Joel Greer, IVH officials and Veterans Administration officials look on. IVH maintenance staff constructed the clothespin/scissors to re-kindle memories of when households used clothespins to hang laundry on clotheslines to dry. The grand opening had been originally scheduled July 20. However that was the day following the devastating EF-3 tornado which struck Marshalltown, resulting in millions of dollars in property damages, but no loss of life or serious injuries.
