Man caught after fleeing MPD, two schools locked down

A man who took off his shirt and shoes in an attempt to elude Marshalltown police Wednesday afternoon was later caught hiding under a deck in the 1400 block of South First Street.

Capt. Mike Hanken of the MPD said the situation developed when the individual fled as an officer attempted to serve a warrant.

The individual fled into a neighborhood near Lenihan and St. Francis schools. The schools were not in session, but were locked down since staff were present.

“We set up a perimeter and called in our K-9 unit to assist in apprehending the suspect,” Hanken said. “We found him hiding under the deck and took him into custody.”

The search lasted approximately an hour. The man’s name was not available at time of press.
