Woman charged with child endangerment

Roberts

A Marshalltown woman was arrested by police and taken to jail last week on a charge of child endangerment and host of traffic-related violations, according to Marshalltown Police Department records. Stephanie Lynn Roberts, 41, was taken into custody after police were called to a residence in the 700 block of South 12th Avenue on reports of an individual yelling and pounding on doors, Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD said. Shortly after officers arrived on scene, the defendant entered her car and drove away but was followed by officers, who recognized Roberts from previous encounters. The defendant then ignored police signals to stop. She returned to the residence and was charged with reckless driving; driving on wrong side of two-way highway; failure to to obey stop or yield sign; speeding 55 or under zone; eluding and child endangerment/no injury. Batterson said the child endangerment charge was made when officers discovered Roberts had her child in the car when attempting to elude police.
