The Marshalltown High School senior class chose their 14 candidates for Homecoming King and Queen Wednesday morning.

The queen candidates are Daisy Lopez, Itzel Hueso, Alyvia Chadderdon, Caroline Gassman, Jordan Blue, Allison Trowbridge and Sloan Vry.

King candidates include Wade Canaday, Carson Potter, Tate Kuehner, Bennett O’Hare, Derrick Garth, Jacob Smith and Brent Johnson.

The Homecoming royalty are celebrated on the evening of Sept. 27. The coronation of king and queen is based on votes from the entire MHS student body.

Before that decision is made, the entire court will have a chance to interact with the community during a Homecoming mini parade set for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26. That parade route will start near the corner of Second Avenue and East Olive Street outside the high school.

From there the court, riding on Elmwood Country Club-provided golf carts, will roll down East Olive Street and turn onto the frontage road lining the MHS sports complex area.

After the mini parade, the Cat’s Carnival will be held at the sports complex and will give the community further opportunity to meet with students ahead of the big game against Sioux City West later that week.

Both the mini parade and carnival are being held to replace the traditional Homecoming parade, which was cancelled this year after it was found to conflict with Marshalltown Oktemberfest activities. The parade will return in 2019.

With the Homecoming Court decided, high school students will look to a week full of activities beginning Sept. 24.
