Woman bites police officer

A Marshalltown police officer was bitten by a local woman being taken into custody earlier this week, said Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD.

Criminal complaints and affidavits were filed in Marshall County District Court against Kelly Christine Eich, 23, of Marshalltown for interference with official acts-bodily injury stemming from biting the police officer. Batterson said skin was not broken, but it did have redness and bruising in the area where the officer was bitten.

Batterson said officers were responding to a call when the defendant appeared on scene driving a vehicle. Officers were aware the defendant’s license was suspended. The defendant became loud and belligerent toward officers. They warned her to cease. After officers that completed the service call they talked to Eich about her driving.

After an investigation, officers issued her a ticket for driving with a suspended license, no insurance and no registration. When asked to sign the citation, the defendant refused, despite being asked multiple times.

She was taken into custody and resisted officers. After making her initial court appearance , the defendant was released on her own recognizance. Court documents show she has hired a local attorney. Her preliminary hearing is Sept. 28.
