A workman with Marshall County Tree Service attaches a cable around the base of a giant red oak tree in the backyard of the Florenz Kapuan property in the 700 block of West Main Street earlier this week. Kapuan said authorities determined the tree is the largest red oak in the state. Unfortunately, the July 19 tornado caused numerous cracks in the tree, making it unsafe Kapaun said. The tree is 95-feet tall with a 17 and one-half foot base.
