School Board approves changes to Roundhouse Phase II project
Phase II of the Marshalltown High School Roundhouse construction continues to sprout up and despite changes in the timeline of the project, the school district still remains in its set budget.
The Marshalltown School Board heard a project budget update at Monday’s board meeting.
Kevin Eipperle of FEH Design, the firm the district hired to design the new wrestling room and auxiliary gymnasium, gave an update on small change orders for the project. He also recommended the board keep a little over $100,000 in reserve for future change orders.
“As you know, we had some allowances built into the project for specific things,” Eipperle said. “All that allowance money has now been spent, so now we are moving into some added costs.”
So far, those added costs have appeared in the forms of changing stair locations, anchoring some of the Roundhouse’s red and blue slot windows and other small projects in relation to the larger overall Phase II addition.
Eipperle said the change orders completed so far come to $15,430. He said the board can expect about two more change orders in the near future, one for an estimated $25,000 and the other for about $20,000.
District Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte said the completed change orders had already been implemented under the approval of district Buildings and Grounds Director Chuck Springer. The change information was brought before the board for information purposes.
The recommended reserve amount of $100,580 would be in addition to the contract of $6,686,000, bringing the total for the project to an estimated $6,786,580. That figure is within the district’s project budget of $6.8 million.
The project is set for substantial completion in early 2019.
