Gas transmission line break affecting Marshall County

A gas transmission line was hit and is affecting six Marshall County communities, according to Alliant Energy.

Alliant is asking its customers in State Center, Melbourne, Rhodes, St. Anthony, Clemons and LaMoille to conserve their natural gas use through Thursday morning “to maintain the pressure to all affected towns during this cold weather.” A gas supplier told the company that someone hit one of their transmission lines that allows them to serve the six communities, spokesperson Mike Wagner said in an email Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday afternoon, Wagner said the “gas supplier has gained control of the hit line and started making repairs to the transmission pipeline.”

“Turning down your thermostat a few degrees and limiting other natural gas use will conserve gas while emergency repairs are made to the transmission line,” Wagner said. “There is still gas in the system, and we’re working to use trucks to add more while repairs are being made.”

The gas line is being back fed from another source at a lower pressure until permanent repairs have been completed.
