Man burglarizes residence and assaults occupant
A Marshalltown man was arrested by authorities on a warrant and taken to Marshall County Jail earlier this week stemming from an incident where he burglarized a residence in the 500 block of Lee Street and assaulted an occupant.
Logan Andrew Calkins, 19, made a forcible entry into a house and then committed an assault on the victim but did not cause bodily injury, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Marshall County District Court.
The defendant left the scene and was not located by police. Consequently, a statewide warrant was issued for his arrest. In addition to a charge of burglary in the second degree, a class C felony, the defendant faces charges of obstruction of emergency communications and criminal mischief in the fifth degree.
At Calkins’ initial appearance Thursday, a Marshall County District Court Magistrate appointed a public defender to represent him. The magistrate also ordered Calkins be held on $10,000 cash only bond for burglary. His preliminary hearing is Nov. 21.
