New housing construction underway near Iowa River Hospice
An Urbandale housing developer, construction and property management company has returned to Marshalltown building more housing.
Housing has become a precious commodity in town since the July 19 tornado crushed or severely damaged a large number of rental properties and single family homes.
Kading Properties started work earlier this year on two sites. One is near Iowa River Hospice, and the second near the South Second Avenue and Glenda Drive intersection.
Kading Properties Chief Executive Officer Karie Kading Ramsey said the company is familiar with Marshalltown, having built rental properties on Plaza Heights Road a number of years ago.
“We will be remodeling a number of those properties in the near future,” she said.
However, Ramsey said the company is excited about two new projects.
“The site by Iowa River Hospice is earmarked for townhomes,” Ramsey said. “There will be 30 units in 15 buildings.”
The company is also grading on the Glenda Drive-South Second Avenue site where 18 units are planned.
“Serving Central Iowa Housing Needs for 40 years” is the company’s tag line.
Ramsey, who has 17 years experience as CEO, said they have constructed condominiums, bi-attached, 4-plexus and 14-plexus in 16 Iowa communities in 10 counties.
“It is great to see all of the new housing going up,” Mayor Joel Greer said at a city council meeting earlier this month.
