GRUNDY CENTER – For the 13th consecutive Christmas season, Lyle and Marlene Nehr of rural Grundy Center have welcomed folks from the surrounding areas into their home on weekends preceding Christmas Day to showcase the couple’s collection of nativity sets, wall hangings and ornaments from all around the world.

The final weekend for open houses will be Dec. 22 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Dec. 23 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the couple’s home at 25915 K Ave near Grundy Center.

Marlene said she now has more than 400 nativity sets, ornaments and wall hangings made of everything from metal, newspaper, Paper Mache, seed pods, orange peels, reeds, clay, pewter, corn stalks and husks to nuts. All but 20 or so are displayed throughout the home for visitors to view at their leisure. She said that the couple has nativities from most all of the 50 states in the U.S. and items from more than 100 countries around the world.
