A Marshalltown man was arrested and taken to Marshall County Jail earlier this week for domestic abuse assault – display of a weapon, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Marshall County District Court.

Alexander Ethan Willet, 24, allegedly punched the victim numerous times in the shoulder and face and also hit her with a baseball bat. During another incident the defendant took the victim’s phone to prevent her from calling emergency responders. Consequently, Willet was also charged with obstruction of emergency communications.

At his initial appearance Friday, a magistrate issued a no contact order against the defendant, meaning he can not contact the victim. The magistrate also granted his request for a public defender. His preliminary hearing is Dec. 17. Bond was set at $2,000 cash or surety.
