Man charged with domestic abuse assault
A local man was arrested by Marshalltown police and taken to Marshall County Jail earlier this week on a charge of assault with intent to inflict serious injury and domestic abuse assault impeding flow of air/blood, according to criminal complaints and affidavits filed in district court.
Jose Fidel Castillo Alvarez, 30, strangled the victim, impeding the flow of air/blood, according to the complaint. The victim complained of pain about her neck. Domestic assault strangulation is an aggravated misdemeanor.
A magistrate ordered a no contact order against the defendant, meaning he can not contact the victim. Additionally, he ordered the defendant held on $2,000 cash bond and assigned him a public defender. His preliminary hearing is Jan. 25.
