Man charged with sexual abuse second degree
A Gladbrook man has been charged with sex abuse second degree, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Marshall County District Court.
Richard Scott Aschan, 20, was released from a facility and then arrested by a Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deputy on a warrant. The defendant was then transported to Marshall County Jail.
The incident which resulted in the charge — a Class B felony — took place in 2015 at a residence in the 600 block of West Boone Street, according to the complaint. The victim was 6 years old and the defendant 17.
Capt. Brian Batterson of the Marshalltown Police Department said the victim reported the incident to the MPD in September 2018. The MPD conducted interviews, spoke to several individuals and consulted with the Marshall County Attorney’s office before issuing a warrant for Aschan’s arrest.
The defendant was ordered held on $100,000 cash-only bond and appointed a public defender at his initial appearance Friday. The court also issued a no contact order, meaning the defendant is not to have any contact with the victim. His preliminary hearing is Jan. 18.
