Man arrested for assault and harassment

Anderson

An argument between a local man and a couple resulted in a warrant issued and the local man being taken to Marshall County Jail.

The couple told Marshalltown police on Jan. 15 that Christopher James Anderson, 41, assaulted the male, Capt. Brian Batterson of the Marshalltown Police Department said. Anderson was also charged with harassment-first degree for threatening the female, Batterson said.

Police searched for the defendant but were unsuccessful, resulting in a warrant being filed for his arrest. Earlier this week an officer recognized Anderson, who was driving. Anderson exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot, but was apprehended by the officer.

A third charge — open container in a public place — resulted when the defendant was found walking on the public roadway while being in possession of an unsealed bottle of vodka that contained a large amount of vodka.

A magistrate ordered Anderson held on $2,000 cash or surety bond, and also issued a no contact order against the defendant, meaning he can not contact the victims. Additionally, the magistrate appointed the defendant a public defender. Anderson’s preliminary hearing is Feb. 14.
