Garage fire extends to house resulting in significant damage

No one was injured, but a residence at 2213 Maple Blvd. in Marshalltown was extensively damaged by a fire at approximately 11:10 p.m. Thursday. Crews from the Marshalltown Fire Department responded while being advised an attached garage was burning with two cars inside. Upon arrival, firefighters saw the garage was being consumed by the well-involved fire and flames were extending to the house on the exterior into the eaves, roof assembly and attic.

Two home owners were alerted by smoke detectors and escaped without incident prior to the arrival of fire crews.

Firefighters extinguished the garage fire and coordinated efforts to eliminate the interior fire with attack lines. Personnel were at the scene for approximately

three hours. The MFD was assisted by Marshalltown police, Marshalltown Emergency Management Services and Alliant Energy. The fire remains under investigation. For more information, contact the MFD at 641-754-5751.
